Institute for the Study of Children, Families and Social Issues

Director: Professor Jacqueline Barnes

The mission of the Institute for the Study of Children, Families and Social Issues is concerned with conducting research that aids understanding of children and families. The Institute is committed to undertaking both basic and applied research related to the development, functioning, and well being of children and families and to addressing contemporary social issues. The research is particularly aimed at informing social policy so that national and local government can formulate evidence-based policy. The Institute does not provide any clinical training nor treatment services of any kind, though it is involved, via its affiliation with the School of Psychological Sciences, Birkbeck University of London, with supervising post-graduates pursuing Master's and Doctoral degrees.
