Early Years Transitions and Special Education Needs (EYTSEN)

This project has grown out of the Effective Provision of Pre-school Education (EPPE) project. From the 3000 children in the EPPE project a subgroup of children have been identified as showing characteristics placing them 'at risk' for developing special educational needs, within the cognitive, linguistic or social/behavioural domains. The alternative criteria for assigning risk and the developmental trajectories in and out of risk over the age range 3-7 years are investigated in this project. Professor Edward Melhuish is a member of an multi-university team directing this project.
